About ToolForge

We're a small team of woodworkers and DIYers who got tired of "best of" lists written by people who'd never touched the tools. So we started ToolForge to do it properly.

Our mission

ToolForge exists to help you buy the right tool the first time. Tools are an investment — the wrong table saw or drill costs you money, time, and a lot of frustration. Our job is to do the testing and the homework so you can buy with confidence and get back to building.

How we test

Every recommendation on this site is grounded in real use. Depending on the tool and category, that means one or more of the following:

  • Hands-on use on actual projects — not spec-sheet rankings.
  • Measured performance where it matters: fence accuracy and deflection on saws, runtime and torque on cordless tools, dust capture on sanders.
  • Long-term notes. We update guides as tools wear, batteries age, and new models launch.
  • Cross-referencing our findings against owner reviews and pro feedback to catch reliability issues that only show up over time.

When we haven't personally tested every unit in a category, we say so clearly and explain how we made our picks.

How we make money

ToolForge is reader-supported. When you buy a tool through links on our site, we may earn a small affiliate commission — at no extra cost to you. We participate in the Amazon Associates Program and other affiliate programs.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Affiliate commissions never influence our rankings. We recommend the tool we genuinely think is best for the job and the budget — not the one that pays the most.

Our editorial promise

  • We will always tell you when a tool is not worth buying.
  • We disclose our affiliate relationships openly, on every page.
  • We keep guides updated rather than letting them go stale.
  • If we get something wrong, we fix it — and note the correction.
